Hike in Winter Thaw

in the valley
rises the deepest dawn

rocks slick with frost
and month long days
that I must cross to get to you

a webbing of dark
would be too easy; they are veins
of glass, a net
as splintered as water

falling, endless
interruptions

and the heavy rumble
of giants
rhyming for my blood
