Interested in working with Press Pause?

We can’t pay you any dollars, but we can provide a great literary magazine team experience for your resume! We hope one day to be able to pay interns too, but until then, we’d love to add you to our masthead anyway! Submit a brief statement introducing yourself and detailing why you’d like to work with us to kate@presspausepress.org. For more info, email info@presspausepress.org.

Here are the open positions we’d like to fill:

art director and designer (layout designer)

We are looking for a replacement for our wonderful, longtime designer, Caitlin Rae Taylor, who is moving on from us to focus on other exciting adventures! If you have Adobe InDesign experience and book layout design experience and want artistic freedom designing our volumes and forthcoming Beautiful Pause Prize full-length manuscripts, don't hesitate to contact se.harsha@presspausepress.org with an inquiry and resume! (Note: This position comes with a small stipend for each volume or design project).

readers

We’re looking for readers to read across all genres. If you’d like to stick to one genre primarily, let us know, but we’d love to find some folks willing to read all genres in our general submissions. Readers will read 5 submissions each week, provide thoughtful comments on whether or not each piece seems like a good fit for Press Pause and vote on each submission. Readers will have no other responsibilities outside of reading submissions. It’s preferred, but not necessarily required, that you have some kind of previous experience working with literary magazines or in a publishing environment.

family room readers

We’re looking for some folks to help us out with our featured department, The Family Room. Fam Room editors will read submissions to the Family Room in various departments and provide thoughtful comments on whether or not each piece seems like a good fit for Press Pause. The Fam Room editors will recommend work for publication and solicit writers they think could be a good fit for various departments. Fam Room editors may also pitch ideas for new departments. Readers will have no other responsibilities outside of reading submissions. It’s preferred, but not necessarily required, that you have some kind of previous experience working with literary magazines or in a publishing environment.
